Our journey began with a one-way ticket from Europe to Africa. Yet, its true origins, the seeds of Zarura, trace back to 2014, in Ireland—a land of lush greenery, just a stone’s throw from the UK.

I was volunteering at the Africa Centre, an NGO devoted to helping reshape the perception of Africa abroad. The Africa Centre was holding one of its annual events for its campaign: Africa Also Smiles. The theme for that year was; The Use Of Images & Messages. The campaign challenged how the media seemed to always portray Africa as this destitute and ridden continent. Most of the images used for fundraising were of malnourished children — in house-fly decor. Fast-forward a few months, the Africa Centre partnered with Dublin Institute Of Technology to offer a short entrepreneur course. The lecturer challenged us to start a business in something we were passionate about, and would make a difference.
At the time, I was volunteering at the Africa Centre, an NGO dedicated to reshaping the global perception of Africa. During one of its annual events for the Africa Also Smiles campaign, the theme was The Use of Images & Messages. The campaign sought to challenge the media’s portrayal of Africa—often reduced to images of malnourished children, framed by poverty and despair.
Months later, the Africa Centre collaborated with the Dublin Institute of Technology to offer an entrepreneurial course. The challenge was to create a business built on passion—one that would make a lasting difference.
It was at that moment that Zarura Creative was born. Zarura, a Shona term meaning “to open,” “unveil,” or “reveal,” embodies our mission: to unlock authentic brand identities, uncover their true potential, and reveal them to the world with clarity and distinction.
While our roots are in Africa, Zarura’s reach is global. We work with brands across the world, helping them uncover their true identity, craft a compelling narrative, and communicate with precision and impact. Our work transcends borders, ensuring that every brand’s story resonates—no matter where it originates.
