Hope Is Essential

Zimbabwe is a nation that has seen difficult times. In the midst of what may very well seem to be a bleak and devastating period for our nation — hope is essential. Many countries have come out of what seemed to be an endless cycle of darkness — some becoming strong and inspirational case studies.

Rebranding Zimbabwe Flag Bird — John Murinye

There were 3 main objectives to this exercise:

  • Create a symbol of hope
  • Create a flexible icon for multiple touch-points
  • Simplify the current Zimbabwe flag

Taking inspiration and visual equity from the current Zimbabwe flag, the Zimbabwe Bird offers the greatest value. By removing all other elements and redrawing the bird in flight, create motion and energy — allowing the identity to become the perfect symbol for hope and resurgence.

The Zimbabwean flag colors and overall brand identity palette was updated and simplified. More saturated hues with greater focus. Green represents the agriculture and fertility of the land. Yellow or gold represents prosperity, wealth and hope. Whilst red acknowledges the sacrifices made by both veterans and the everyday citizen.
